Antonio Bastoni scored for the second time in this UEFA Nations League campaign as Italy came from behind to draw 1-1 with France at the Stade de France on Friday, 2 October 2026.
The Inter Milan defender levelled in the 68th minute after capitalising on a costly error from Lucas Da Cunha, denying France victory in the third round of Group A.
France had taken the lead 13 minutes earlier through Michael Olise. Rayan Cherki played a short free-kick to Olise, who struck a left-footed effort that hit the crossbar before crossing the line.
Italy had been unable to find a way through in a goalless first half, but Bastoni’s equaliser changed the momentum of the match. He took advantage of Da Cunha’s poor first touch after the France midfielder received a pass from Adrien Rabiot.
Bastoni won possession in an advanced position and drove towards goal before finishing past France goalkeeper Mike Maignan.
The goal continued the defender’s notable contribution in this edition of the Nations League. He had also scored Italy’s opening goal in their 4-1 win over Turkey several days earlier, taking his tally to two goals in the competition.
Bastoni was also involved in a late moment of uncertainty at the other end. France appealed for a penalty when he appeared to bring down Olise, but the referee waved play on.
Neither side could find a winning goal, leaving France at the top of the group with seven points. Belgium are second on six points, while Italy sit third with four.
Turkey remain bottom of the group without a point.
