Bastien Meupiyou: Galatasaray eye move for France-Cameroon defender at Alverca

Galatasaray are weighing up a move for France-Cameroon centre-back Bastien Meupiyou, who currently plays for Portuguese side Alverca. The 20-year-old left-footed defender, under contract with the Liga Portugal club until 30 June 2028, has been linked with a switch to Istanbul as the Turkish Super Lig giants assess defensive options for the new season.

The probability of a deal is currently being rated at just under 50%, indicating that Galatasaray’s interest is concrete but still at an exploratory stage rather than advanced negotiations. Any move would likely require a significant fee, with Meupiyou’s market value standing at around €7 million.

Born in Paris in March 2006 and standing at 1.91m, Meupiyou joined Alverca in July 2025 and has established himself in the heart of their defence. His performances in Portugal have attracted attention beyond Liga Portugal, with Galatasaray now emerging as one of the most serious potential suitors.

Meupiyou represents Alverca as a central defender and wears the number 33 shirt. Holding both French and Cameroonian nationality, he offers an appealing profile to clubs looking to strengthen at the back while still investing in a player tied to a long-term deal.

With three years remaining on his contract, Alverca are under no immediate pressure to sell, and any transfer would depend on Galatasaray meeting the Portuguese club’s valuation of the centre-back.
