Ligue 1: Bastia’s Floyd Ayité Eyes Victory Against Monaco
By BBC Sport | Ligue 1 | Matchday 11 Preview

With just two days remaining before SC Bastia host AS Monaco in Ligue 1’s 11th round, Togolese international Floyd Ayité addressed the media, striking a confident tone ahead of the high-stakes encounter.

Fresh from Bastia’s hard-fought 1-0 victory over OGC Nice—sealed by Ayité’s own decisive goal—the midfielder emphasised the importance of unity and preparation as the Corsican side gears up for another challenging test.

“Winning brings a sense of calm and clarity,” Ayité told reporters. “We’ve worked hard in training because we know this match is crucial. There’s a positive mood in the camp, and we’re ready.”

Reflecting on the team’s resilience, particularly in derby situations like the one against Nice, the 35-year-old praised Bastia’s collective spirit. “When everyone contributes, when we’re united, we can get results anywhere. That solidarity is at the heart of who we are as athletes. We’ll bring that same energy into the match this weekend.”

Ayité, who has been a standout performer for Bastia this season, was unequivocal when asked about the looming clash with Monaco, a side rich in talent and European pedigree.

“Personally, I’ve never feared Monaco,” he said with conviction. “Yes, they have a strong squad, quality players, but they’ve also had slip-ups—this season and last. We’ve seen inconsistencies, especially when they’ve had European fixtures around the same time.”

Monaco, currently juggling their Ligue 1 campaign with Champions League commitments, have shown moments of vulnerability. Ayité believes Bastia can capitalise on that, particularly with home advantage.

“They’re coming to our ground,” he added. “For me, it’s a three-outcome game—but I believe we’ll win.”

Ayité’s goal against Nice was not only pivotal for the three points, but also symbolic of Bastia’s fighting spirit this season. The Corsican side currently sits mid-table, and a result against Monaco would represent a significant statement of intent.

The match, set to take place at the Stade Armand-Cesari, will be a stern test for both sides. While Monaco are pushing to keep pace with league leaders, Bastia will look to build momentum and reassert their presence in Ligue 1 after years of fluctuating fortunes.

As kickoff approaches, Ayité’s leadership and confidence could prove crucial—not just in the midfield battle, but in rallying a Bastia side determined to make the most of its home turf.
