Basel eye Pro Vercelli winger Asane Sow in cut-price move

Swiss Super League side Basel are being linked with a move for Pro Vercelli’s Senegalese-Italian left winger Asane Sow, 20, who currently plays in Italy’s Serie C.

Born in Seriate on 2 May 2006, Sow holds both Senegal and Italy nationality and has emerged as one of Pro Vercelli’s more intriguing attacking prospects. Listed primarily as an attacking left winger and preferring his right foot, he wears the No 11 shirt for the historic Piedmont club.

According to data from Transfermarkt, Basel’s interest comes with Sow currently valued at €175k, a figure that would make him a relatively low-cost option for a club looking to refresh its wide options. With his contract situation at Pro Vercelli not publicly defined and no expiry date recorded, there is already speculation that the forward could either negotiate improved terms in Italy or angle towards a move that might eventually see him run down his deal and test the market as a future free agent.

Sow has been turning out for Pro Vercelli in Serie C – Girone A, using his pace and direct running from the left flank to stretch defences. While detailed seasonal statistics beyond his appearances are not disclosed in the data, his continued involvement at first-team level for the third-tier side has been enough to attract scouts from outside Italy.

There is no reported fee agreed and the probability of a deal at this stage is marked only as “?”, underlining the tentative nature of the speculation. No agreement over personal terms or contract length has been made public.

If Basel do firm up their interest and a move materialises, a switch from Serie C to the Swiss Super League could provide Sow with a significant platform to accelerate his development and raise his profile on the European stage.
