Barcelona’s unbeaten Racing Santander record sets up one-sided La Liga clash

Barcelona’s recent dominance of Racing Santander will be put to the test when the sides meet in La Liga on Wednesday, with the Catalan club unbeaten in their past 17 league meetings.

Barcelona have won 14 of those matches and drawn three, while they are currently on a run of seven successive victories against Racing. They have also kept five consecutive clean sheets in the fixture, their longest winning sequence against Racing in the Spanish top flight.

Racing have suffered more away defeats against Barcelona than any other side in their La Liga history, losing 37 of 44 visits. They have won two and drawn five of the other matches, while the 133 goals conceded at Barcelona is also their highest total against any opponent away from home.

Barcelona were the last team to concede eight or more goals to Racing in a La Liga match, when they lost 8-0 in April 1962.

Wednesday’s record also favours Barcelona. They have won five of their past eight league matches played on that day, with three defeats. Racing have managed just one victory in their last eight Wednesday fixtures, alongside three draws and four losses.

Barcelona have won all five of their opening La Liga matches in 2026-27. In four of the five previous occasions during the 21st century when they won their first six league games, they went on to win the title. The exception was the 2013-14 season, when they finished second.

Racing have collected seven points from their first five matches this season, with two wins, one draw and two defeats. It is their highest tally at this stage since 2005-06, when they also had seven points from the same record.

Yamal and Raphinha lead Barcelona numbers

Barcelona have used the youngest starting XI in La Liga this season, with an average age of 23 years and 356 days. Their most recent match, against Levante, was only the second occasion on which manager Hansi Flick made no changes to his starting line-up from the previous league game. The other was against Girona in September 2024, excluding opening-round fixtures.

Lamine Yamal has scored six league goals in 2026-27, his best total after the first five matches of a season. He has scored in three consecutive games but has never found the net in four successive La Liga appearances.

Raphinha has contributed to nine goals this season, scoring six and providing three assists. That is the highest tally by a player after his team’s opening five matches since Lionel Messi recorded 10 contributions in 2017-18, with nine goals and one assist.

Racing forward Yasser Al-Zubairi has scored five goals in five league matches, setting a 21st-century club record for Racing after the first five games of a campaign.

Racing manager Jose Alberto Lopez lost his only previous meeting with Barcelona, a 2-0 defeat in the Copa del Rey in January this year.

Only Gregorio Manzano, in 2001, and Lucas Alcaraz, in 2004, have won their first La Liga match in charge of Racing against Barcelona this century. Manzano’s side won 4-0, while Alcaraz’s team recorded a 3-0 victory.
