Barcelona’s Tommy Marquez wanted by Manchester City, Braga and Dortmund

Barcelona are preparing significant changes to their midfield following the signing of Spain international Rodri, with 19-year-old Tommy Marquez among the players who could leave the club.

The Catalan club are willing to consider a departure for Marquez as they reshape their midfield options, but want to retain a buy-back clause. That would allow Barcelona to bring the young midfielder back in the future if he develops and establishes himself elsewhere.

According to Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo, Marquez is currently considering a number of attractive offers from well-known European clubs. Manchester City are understood to be among the leading candidates for his signature, although Sporting Braga and Borussia Dortmund are also showing serious interest.

City are examining the possibility of signing Marquez as a long-term investment. Their proposed plan would involve completing a deal for the teenager before sending him on loan to Girona, the Spanish club that is a strategic partner of the City Football Group.

A move to Girona would be intended to give Marquez more first-team experience and regular opportunities to play in La Liga. The arrangement would allow Manchester City to retain control of his development while placing him in a familiar competitive environment.

Sporting Braga push for deal

The most immediate pressure on Barcelona may come from Portugal, where Sporting Braga are also pursuing Marquez. The club currently have Pau Victor, a former Barcelona defender, on their books, and he has expressed great happiness with his experience in Portugal.

Braga’s interest is being led by manager Carlos Vicens. The coach previously worked in Manchester City’s academy and is known for placing considerable trust in young players.

Vicens’ reputation for giving emerging talents genuine opportunities to play is viewed as a major factor in Braga’s pursuit of Marquez. That approach could make the Portuguese club an appealing destination for a midfielder seeking regular senior football and a clear route to further development.

Barcelona’s willingness to include a buy-back option reflects their desire to keep open the possibility of Marquez returning to the club. However, the arrival of Rodri has increased competition for places in midfield and could accelerate a decision on the youngster’s future.

Dortmund maintain interest

Borussia Dortmund have also made their serious interest in Marquez known. The German club benefit from strong links with Barcelona, relationships which have been strengthened recently after several deals between the two sides were completed.

Dortmund’s involvement gives Marquez another major European option as he weighs the next stage of his career. The German club, like Manchester City and Sporting Braga, could offer him a pathway away from Barcelona while allowing the Catalan side to preserve the possibility of a future return.

For now, Marquez is considering the proposals available to him, while Barcelona assess the best way to manage his development after restructuring their midfield around Rodri. Manchester City’s potential plan to combine a permanent transfer with a loan to Girona places them among the most prominent clubs competing for the teenager.
