Barcelona’s third Rodri bid raises hopes of Manchester City deal

Rodri is reportedly closer to joining Barcelona, with negotiations between the Catalan club and Manchester City said to have entered their final stage during the current summer transfer window.

Transfer expert Matteo Moretto wrote on X: “Rodri is closer to moving to Barca… the deal is on the verge of completion.”

Moretto added that discussions between Barcelona and Manchester City had been continuing for several days and had now reached the decisive phase.

“After days of talks between the two clubs, negotiations between Barcelona and Manchester City are now in the final stages,” he said.

Barcelona are seeking to complete the transfer within the next few hours, according to Moretto. He reported that the proposed fee would exceed 70m euros, with the overall package made up of a fixed payment and add-ons.

The Spanish club’s latest efforts come after it submitted a third offer for the Manchester City midfielder. Journalist Ben Jacobs wrote on X: “Barcelona have made a third offer for Rodri and are optimistic about completing the deal. The details of the deal, worth more than £60m, are currently being discussed.”

The two reported figures differ because the proposed transfer is understood to include both guaranteed money and performance-related variables. Moretto referred to a package worth more than 70m euros, while Jacobs described the value as exceeding £60m.

Neither report states that the transfer has been completed, but both indicate that Barcelona believe the deal is moving towards a conclusion. The negotiations remain focused on the final financial details between the two clubs.

Rodri, who plays in midfield for Manchester City, has also been the subject of strong interest from Real Madrid. The Spanish club had competed with Barcelona for his signing, but the player ultimately chose to join Hansi Flick’s Barcelona side, according to the report.

The potential move would therefore see Rodri remain in Spain, with Barcelona attempting to secure an agreement before the summer transfer window progresses further. The Catalan club are now working to settle the structure of the fee and complete the negotiations with Manchester City.

At this stage, the transfer remains subject to an agreement between the clubs. However, the third Barcelona offer and the latest reports from Moretto and Jacobs suggest the discussions have advanced significantly after several days of talks.
