Barcelona’s 700-pass game highlights remarkable start to season

Barcelona have completed more than 700 passes in each of their past three matches, underlining their increasing control of possession at the start of the season.

A report published by Marca on Monday praised the Catalan club’s performances, particularly the patience and precision they have shown when building attacks.

Barcelona have dominated the ball, moving it smoothly between players while waiting for openings to appear. Their passing figures have risen significantly in recent matches against Valencia, Feyenoord and Levante.

They completed 728 passes away to Valencia before making 746 in their opening match of the major European competition against Feyenoord.

The figure remained high at Levante’s Ciutat de Valencia, where Barcelona finished with 711 completed passes.

Barcelona also recorded their highest possession percentage of the season in that match. Their share of the ball reached 75%, above the 74% recorded at Valencia and the 72% they registered against Feyenoord in the Champions League.

The contrast with Levante’s early involvement was particularly striking. In the opening five minutes, before Xavi Espart’s goal, Levante barely touched the ball as Barcelona circulated possession with considerable control.

The figures represent a clear increase from the beginning of the campaign. Barcelona completed 463 passes against Elche, followed by 560 against Athletic Bilbao and 585 against Rayo Vallecano.

Their most recent three matches have therefore shown a greater ability to retain and use the ball, as the team’s passing game continues to develop.

Barcelona will have the opportunity to maintain that momentum against Racing Santander on Wednesday.

The latest statistics suggest the club are continuing their upward progress during the early stages of the season, with possession and passing becoming increasingly central to their performances.
