Barcelona won’t sign Nigeria star Victor Osimhen in summer
Spanish champions Barcelona have reportedly decided against pursuing a move for Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen despite being offered the chance to sign the prolific forward.
As per reports, representatives of Osimhen recently approached Barcelona’s hierarchy to explore the possibility of a transfer. The Nigerian international is believed to be keen on continuing his career in one of Europe’s elite leagues and views Spain as an attractive destination.
However, despite the striker’s availability and impressive reputation, Barcelona have opted not to advance discussions at this stage. The Catalan giants are currently prioritising other attacking targets as they continue to shape their plans for the upcoming season.
Osimhen remains one of the most sought-after forwards in world football. Known for his pace, physical presence, aerial ability and clinical finishing, the 27-year-old has consistently demonstrated his quality at club and international level. His performances have attracted interest from several top European clubs over the past few years.
While Barcelona acknowledge the qualities the Nigerian brings, the club’s sporting department is reportedly focused on a different profile in attack. Their primary objective remains securing the services of Julián Álvarez from Atlético Madrid.
The Argentine forward is highly regarded within Barcelona’s recruitment team, who see him as an ideal addition to strengthen the club’s attacking options. However, negotiations are expected to be complicated, as Atletico Madrid are reluctant to part ways with one of their most valuable assets.
Despite Atletico’s firm stance, Barcelona officials reportedly remain hopeful that circumstances could change in the coming weeks, potentially opening the door for a move. The club is therefore concentrating its efforts on monitoring Álvarez’s situation rather than pursuing alternative targets.
Osimhen’s future nevertheless remains a major talking point heading into the summer transfer window. With his ambition to compete at the highest level and interest from several elite clubs, speculation surrounding his next move is unlikely to disappear anytime soon.
The Nigerian striker currently carries an estimated market value of €75 million. His contract with Turkish champions Galatasaray runs until the summer of 2029, meaning any interested club would likely need to negotiate a significant transfer fee to secure his signature.
For now, Barcelona’s attention appears firmly fixed on Álvarez, leaving Osimhen to explore other opportunities as he seeks the next challenge in his career.
