Barcelona welcome Frenkie de Jong back to team training after four-month injury absence

Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong has returned to full team training after almost four months out with a right knee injury, providing a significant boost for manager Hansi Flick.

The Netherlands international took part in Tuesday’s session with the rest of the squad, having completed individual training on Monday. His return to group work marks an important stage in his recovery from an injury to the medial collateral ligament in his right knee.

Barcelona’s official Instagram account welcomed the midfielder’s comeback, posting: “Frenkie returns to training! He is back taking part in training with the group! Welcome back, Frenkie de Jong.”

De Jong sustained the injury during the 2026 World Cup and opted for conservative treatment rather than undergoing surgery. His rehabilitation has been lengthy and gradual, with the midfielder only cleared to rejoin collective training after completing the latest steps in his recovery.

However, his presence in training does not mean he is ready to play in a competitive match. Barcelona are keen to avoid taking any risks following the injury that kept him out for close to four months, and will continue to manage his return cautiously.

The midfielder’s comeback comes as particularly positive news for Flick, who will nevertheless have to wait before De Jong can be considered for selection.

Adeyemi returns after Germany duty

Karim Adeyemi has also resumed training with Barcelona after completing international duty with Germany during the recent break.

The forward started both of Germany’s matches against the Netherlands and Greece, operating on the right wing in each game. He played 80 minutes against the Netherlands and created a goal in the 1-1 draw, before featuring for 76 minutes in the match against Greece.

Adeyemi has started three games for Barcelona this season. Across those appearances, he has scored three goals and provided three assists.
