Barcelona to receive further €1.9m after Nico Gonzalez joins Newcastle United

Barcelona are set to receive €1.9m from Nico Gonzalez’s move from Manchester City to Newcastle United, in a deal that could eventually be worth €56m, with a further €4.6m available in add-ons.

The payment is due under FIFA’s solidarity programme, which distributes 5% of a player’s transfer rights to the clubs that contributed to his development between the ages of 12 and 23.

Portuguese newspaper O Jogo reports that Barcelona will receive €1.9m from the solidarity payment. Porto are due €560,000, while Valencia are expected to receive €280,000.

The latest sum takes the total amount generated by Gonzalez for Barcelona since his departure to €25.4m.

That figure includes the initial €8.5m transfer fee paid when he joined Porto, followed by the €15m Barcelona received when he moved to Manchester City. The latest €1.9m payment from FIFA’s solidarity scheme takes the club’s overall income from the player to the new total.

Gonzalez’s move to Newcastle United could reach €56m in total, in addition to the €4.6m in potential variables outlined in the agreement. Barcelona’s entitlement is linked not to the final transfer value alone, but to the period during which the midfielder was registered with clubs responsible for his training.

Barcelona’s latest income comes as a further financial return from a player who initially left the Catalan club for Porto.
