Barcelona have suspended the activities of their “Goal 1957” supporters’ stand for Saturday’s La Liga match against Deportivo Alaves following a series of disciplinary breaches, including an alleged attack on Eduardo Camavinga during Real Madrid’s celebrations in the latest El Clasico.
Real Madrid won the match 2-1, with the incident occurring in the closing stages after Kylian Mbappe scored their second goal. As the Real Madrid players celebrated, Camavinga was struck by a flagpole thrown by a supporter, while other objects were also reportedly thrown from the stands at Camp Nou.
The incident prompted widespread scrutiny of crowd behaviour inside the stadium and became one of the main issues facing Barcelona after the match.
Police identified the supporter allegedly involved using stadium surveillance footage, working with the club’s security services. The investigation followed a complaint filed by La Liga.
According to Spanish media reports, the supporter could face a fine of up to 60,000 euros, as well as possible measures preventing him from entering sporting venues.
Barcelona issue statement
Barcelona announced the suspension in a statement published on the club’s website. It said the decision was linked to a number of disciplinary proceedings involving the club and some members of the stand, relating to conduct considered incompatible with sporting values.
The statement said: “Barcelona have decided to suspend the activities of the Goal 1957 stand, known as the supporters’ stand, during the next La Liga match against Alaves.
“This decision comes in response to a series of disciplinary proceedings opened against the club and some of its members because of behaviour that is incompatible with sporting values. Such actions expose the club to financial penalties and the risk of the stadium being closed, as well as damaging its image.
“The club will meet representatives of the groups that make up the Goal 1957 stand to discuss the situation and establish the necessary commitments to maintain passionate and respectful support, helping the team without putting Barcelona’s property or reputation at risk.
“The club hopes that Goal 1957 can return to full operation during the match against Aston Villa, provided these discussions allow the situation to be corrected and ensure the stand operates properly.
“Support is an important element that the club wishes to preserve, based on the shared commitment and responsibility of everyone, in the interests of Barcelona.”
Barcelona are scheduled to host Deportivo Alaves in La Liga on 31 October 2026. Racing Santander are listed to face Real Madrid in the competition on 1 November 2026.
