Barcelona’s preseason plans have taken a blow with the club confirming that young Malian forward Ibrahim Diarra will miss the upcoming tour of Japan and South Korea due to injury.
The 19-year-old, who plays for Barça Atlètic, was expected to be part of Hansi Flick’s senior squad for the high-profile Asian tour. He had impressed in training and was eyeing a chance to stake his claim for a more regular role with the first team.
However, the club revealed on Saturday that Diarra has picked up a muscle injury to the rectus femoris in his right leg. The setback occurred during a recent training session.
“The 19-year-old’s return to first-team activities will depend on the progress of his recovery,” Barcelona said in a statement.
Diarra’s absence is a disappointment for both the player and the coaching staff, who had been keen to assess him in competitive conditions.
The club has not set a specific date for his return, opting instead for a measured approach as he begins his recovery.
