Barcelona are preparing to complain to UEFA about a controversial banner displayed by Paris Saint-Germain supporters before the clubs’ Champions League meeting.

The Catalan club considers the display an unacceptable breach of the boundaries of sporting rivalry and intends to submit its complaint after the match, according to Spanish newspaper Sport.

The large banner, unveiled in one of the stadium stands shortly before kick-off, carried the words “A massacre in the Parisian way”. It also showed a figure wearing a Paris Saint-Germain shirt and a frightening mask, holding a chainsaw as the club crest of Barcelona was smashed apart.

The display appeared in a highly charged atmosphere surrounding a meeting between two of European football’s leading rivals. It was shared on social media by La Source Parisienne on 20 October 2026, alongside the caption: “Voici le tifo pour ce Paris Saint Germain ‘massacre a la parisienne’” – “Here is the display for this Paris Saint-Germain ‘massacre in the Parisian way’”.

Sport reported that the design drew on the character Leatherface from the horror film The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. The mask was also associated with Michael Myers, the central character in the Halloween film series.

The combination of horror imagery and a direct attack on Barcelona’s identity was viewed by the club’s board as more than an attempt to provoke the opposition or increase the intensity inside the stadium.

Barcelona instead believes the banner went beyond what should be accepted as part of sporting competition. The club has therefore chosen to pursue the matter through official channels rather than treat it solely as a supporters’ display.

Its planned approach to UEFA comes as matches between Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain continue to attract intense attention across Europe, with the meetings regularly accompanied by a particularly charged atmosphere in the stands.

Barcelona’s position is that the rivalry should not be transferred into scenes that cross the limits of football support. The club plans to formally present its complaint to UEFA once the fixture has ended.

The report did not provide details of any possible disciplinary action. It also did not include an official response from Paris Saint-Germain.
