Barcelona scouts are reportedly monitoring Cameroonian defender Samuel Kotto at the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, with the Gent centre-back attracting attention with his performances in the opening match against Gabon.
According to sources, the 22-year-old left-footed defender has impressed Barcelona’s observers with his physical strength, defensive authority and calmness in possession.
His presence at the back and confidence on the ball have stood out as he represents Cameroon on the continental stage.
While Kotto is part of Cameroon’s AFCON squad, he is viewed by Barcelona as a long-term project rather than an immediate transfer target. His ability to carry the ball out from defence and remain composed under pressure is said to have particularly appealed to the club’s scouting team.
Kotto remains under contract with Belgian side Gent until 2028 and, although no formal approach has been made, Barcelona are continuing to track his progress as part of their broader strategy of identifying young, high-potential talents during the tournament.
