Barcelona report record income above €1bn as members prepare for Espai Barca vote

Barcelona have recorded annual revenue of more than €1bn for the first time, as the club prepares for a key general assembly at which members will vote on increased borrowing for the Espai Barca redevelopment project.

The club’s board has scheduled the ordinary and extraordinary General Assembly of Members and Supporters for 19 September. Delegates will be asked to approve an increase in the credit allocated to finance the redevelopment of the new Spotify Camp Nou and the wider Espai Barca project.

Barcelona said it had completed its financial year with “positive ordinary results for the third consecutive season”. The figures represent a new revenue record, with the club moving beyond the €1bn mark for the first time.

A major factor behind the improved income has been the operation and use of Spotify Camp Nou. Barcelona’s return to the stadium has increased profits, although the club says it still requires additional credit to complete all the changes and construction work included in the redevelopment plans.

The ordinary part of the assembly will also include the usual approval of the financial settlement for the previous financial year. Members are expected to vote on the budget for the 2026-27 season, which is also projected to set a record.

The assembly will allow delegates to give their views and vote on the items presented by the board. Members will also be asked to ratify the appointments of directors who did not resign from their positions alongside president Joan Laporta in order to stand in the elections.

Those directors are Rafael Yuste, Josep Cubells, Alfons Castro, Josep Ignasi Macia, Angel Riudolbas, Joan Sole and Cisco Pujol.

As is customary, the meeting will include a question-and-answer session covering a range of issues. However, the club’s financial position and the proposed increase in borrowing are expected to dominate proceedings.

Barcelona also plans to provide explanations on sporting matters after the conclusion of what it described as a particularly notable summer transfer window. The club believes the business conducted during the window has allowed it to assemble a squad capable of competing at the highest level.

The planned vote is an important stage in the financing of Espai Barca, the project centred on the redevelopment of Spotify Camp Nou. Although the stadium’s reopening has helped Barcelona increase its earnings, the club needs further financial backing to finish the remaining work.

The announcement of the assembly date was made by Barcelona’s board, which approved the call for the ordinary General Assembly of Members and Supporters to be held on Saturday, 19 September. Delegates will therefore decide not only on the club’s financial accounts and next-season budget, but also on the additional credit considered necessary to complete the stadium project.
