Barcelona have resumed their pursuit of Athletic Club winger Nico Williams, with the player’s agent reportedly holding talks with sporting director Deco to explore the possibility of a transfer this summer.
Williams, who has Ghanaian heritage, has been a long-term target for the Catalan giants and is back on their radar despite initial suggestions they had ruled themselves out of the race due to financial constraints.
The 22-year-old is one of Spain’s brightest attacking prospects and has previously expressed a preference for staying in La Liga over a move abroad.
According to Spanish outlet Sport, Williams’s agent, Felix Tainta, recently met with Deco to discuss terms and gauge Barcelona’s renewed interest in signing the explosive winger.
The club had stepped back from negotiations earlier due to salary cap limitations, but his release clause—reportedly in the region of €50 million—makes the deal more viable if Barcelona can secure player sales.
Bayern Munich are also monitoring the situation after failing to land Florian Wirtz, who is now expected to join Liverpool.
However, Barcelona may hold an edge in the race for Williams, given the player’s preference to remain in Spain and his close friendships with several players in the current Barça squad.
Barcelona view Williams as a long-term solution for their left flank, and Deco’s meeting with his representatives signals the club’s renewed commitment to strengthening the squad under new manager Hansi Flick.
