Barcelona receive positive Jules Kounde update as defensive injuries mount

Jules Kounde has a strong chance of being available when Barcelona face Deportivo Alaves on Saturday, 31 October 2026, in the 11th round of La Liga.

According to Sport, the signs are encouraging for the France defender, who missed the Clasico because of a sprain to his left ankle.

Kounde had been close to recovering in time for the Clasico, but Barcelona’s coaching staff decided against taking a risk by selecting him. His progress has since improved his chances of featuring against Deportivo Alaves, provided his recovery continues without setbacks.

Kounde addressed Barcelona supporters on Instagram after what he described as a difficult period for the club.

“Difficult week. It is time to stay united, Barcelona fans, more than ever,” he wrote.

“There is no doubt that we will come out of this period stronger.”

Barcelona’s greater concern is the condition of Xavi Espart, who was forced to leave the Clasico during the first half because of an injury. Alejandro Balde replaced him in the 29th minute.

The club later confirmed the injury in a statement and said Espart would be out for 7 weeks.

The growing injury list has reduced Hansi Flick’s defensive options ahead of the meeting with Deportivo Alaves. The Barcelona manager has not ruled out bringing in players from the reserve team if required.

“We do not have many options in defence, so we have to manage the situation,” said Flick.

“We may have to promote some players from the club’s academy.”
