Several FC Barcelona players are holding a grudge against Spanish forward of Ghanaian descent, Nico Williams over his refusal to join the club.
Last summer, the younger brother of Inaki Williams was heavily linked with a move to FC Barcelona.
Although Barcelona wanted to sign the forward to augment their squad, Nico Williams opted to stay at Athletic Club and signed a new contract with the side.
According to sources in Spain, some Barcelona players felt “disrespected” by the winger’s U-turn, viewing it as a betrayal that left the club in a difficult position.
The situation has reportedly drawn comparisons to Antoine Griezmann’s infamous initial rejection of Barcelona, a move that also caused friction within the squad.
Adding to the tension is the emergence of Brazilian winger Raphinha, who has had a sensational season under Hansi Flick, contributing 31 goals and 25 assists.
It is understood that FC Barcelona have moved on from Nico Williams and players no longer want him to be a part of the team.
