Barcelona negotiate Rodri deal as four players face fallout while Gavi and Pedri stay protected

Barcelona are in talks with Manchester City as they attempt to complete a deal for Spain midfielder Rodri, whose potential arrival would have significant consequences for the club’s squad.

If the move goes through, Hansi Flick’s project would gain not only one of the best players in the world in his position, but also an influential leader capable of raising the competitive level of the entire team.

However, Rodri’s arrival would also force Barcelona to reconsider how opportunities are distributed within the squad. According to SPORT, the signing of a player with his quality, status and influence would inevitably bring changes to the club’s rotation and affect a number of other players.

Gavi and Pedri would not be at risk of losing their protected status, despite the scale of the proposed signing. The consequences would instead be felt by four other members of the Barcelona squad, who could find their roles reduced or altered if Rodri joins.

The report does not suggest that Barcelona are close to announcing an agreement, but negotiations with Manchester City are taking place as the Catalan club explore the possibility of bringing Rodri to the Camp Nou.

Rodri is regarded as a player who can shape the structure and identity of a side. His importance is not limited to his work in possession or his defensive contribution; his presence also gives a team greater authority and control. That level of influence would naturally affect the way Flick manages his squad.

Barcelona’s current project under Flick would therefore be changed in more than one way by the signing. The club would add a player considered among the outstanding performers in his position, while also acquiring a leader who could increase its competitive ambitions.

At the same time, the midfielder’s standing would make it difficult for him to be treated as an ordinary squad option. His importance would be reflected in the rotation, with other players potentially receiving fewer opportunities as Barcelona accommodate him in their plans.
