Munir El Haddadi Shines for Barcelona Amid Interest from Morocco
Teenage sensation Munir El Haddadi made headlines with a standout performance during his professional debut for FC Barcelona, scoring in the club’s 3–0 victory over Elche in La Liga. At just 18 years and 357 days old, the Spanish-Moroccan striker netted the second goal for the Catalan giants, underlining his immense potential and composure on the big stage.
The performance has reignited discussions about his international future. Although born in Spain to Moroccan parents, El Haddadi is eligible to represent either Spain or Morocco at senior level. His emergence has drawn the keen attention of the Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), which has been actively trying to persuade the young forward to commit to the Atlas Lions.
According to the Moroccan newspaper Akhbar Al Yawm, Morocco’s Minister of Youth and Sports, Mohamed Ouzzine, was present at Camp Nou to witness El Haddadi’s debut. Ouzzine reportedly expressed hope that the player might one day choose to represent Morocco.
Despite these efforts, the FRMF has so far been unsuccessful in securing El Haddadi’s commitment. Spain’s national team management is also believed to be closely monitoring the forward, whose rapid rise through Barcelona’s youth ranks has made him one of the most promising talents in European football.
El Haddadi’s decision could come sooner rather than later, especially if Spain seeks to cap him in a competitive fixture, which would rule out a future switch to Morocco under FIFA eligibility rules.
With both nations eager to secure his services, the next few months may prove decisive in shaping the international future of one of football’s most exciting young prospects.
