Barcelona keep Cesc Fabregas in mind as potential Hansi Flick successor

Barcelona have identified former midfielder Cesc Fabregas as a possible future successor to Hansi Flick, despite the club having no immediate plans to change manager.

Flick retains the full confidence of Barcelona’s board and is contracted until 2028, with an option to extend that agreement by a further season. The German has made a strong impression since taking charge, helping the club regain its position among Europe’s leading teams.

He has also led Barcelona to two La Liga titles and built a squad capable of challenging strongly for the UEFA Champions League, with the club aiming to bring the European trophy back to Catalonia.

As a result, Barcelona are not currently searching for Flick’s replacement. However, the club continue to monitor coaches whose ideas fit their footballing philosophy, particularly those able to develop players and produce a style consistent with Barcelona’s identity.

According to Catalan newspaper Sport, Fabregas has emerged as one of the leading names under consideration. The former Barcelona player is currently part of the coaching project at Como, where his work has attracted growing attention across Europe.

Fabregas joined the Como project about three years ago and has played a central role in the club’s significant progress. During that period, Como rose from Serie B to participation in the UEFA Champions League.

That achievement has prompted several major European clubs to follow the development of the former Spain midfielder as a coach. Barcelona’s interest, however, is understood to extend beyond the results produced by Como.

Club officials are said to appreciate Fabregas’ playing style, his preparation for matches and his ability to improve players and enhance their technical value. Reports indicate that the total market value of Como’s squad rose from about €31m to approximately €535m during the period in which he was in charge.

Those developments have strengthened Fabregas’ standing at Barcelona, where he is now viewed as a possible option should Flick eventually decide to leave.

Sport reports that Barcelona have gone beyond simply observing his progress. A prominent figure at the club has reportedly sent Fabregas a clear message: if he decides to end his time at Como in the future, he should contact Barcelona before considering any other offers.

The approach does not represent an immediate move to appoint him, with Barcelona remaining satisfied with Flick and committed to his continued leadership. Instead, it leaves open the possibility of Fabregas returning to the club where he built part of his playing career.

Fabregas previously wore the Barcelona shirt as a player. If the club’s interest develops in the coming years, he could return to Camp Nou in a different role as head coach of the first team.

For now, Barcelona are continuing with Flick while keeping a close watch on Fabregas’ progress at Como.
