Barcelona extend Hamza Abdelkarim contract until 2030

Barcelona have renewed the contract of young Egyptian forward Hamza Abdelkarim, keeping him at the Catalan club until 30 June 2030.

The agreement was formally signed at the office of Barcelona president Joan Laporta, with Abdelkarim present for the ceremony.

The contract extension follows an impressive summer preparation period for the forward. Abdelkarim finished as Barcelona’s leading scorer during pre-season with five goals and also made his first appearance for the senior side in the Spanish league against Rayo Vallecano.

Abdelkarim joined Barcelona’s academy during the winter transfer window and initially signed a contract running until 2029. That agreement contained a release clause worth 15m euros.

However, the significant progress made by the Egyptian has prompted Barcelona to act before the original deal expired. The club have extended his stay and substantially increased the value of the clause in his new contract.

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Abdelkarim’s new release clause will be set at 150m euros.
