Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo in line for Liverpool loan move

Liverpool have reached a verbal agreement with Barcelona to sign defender Ronald Araujo on loan, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, in a surprise move during the current summer transfer window.

The proposed deal would see Araujo join the Premier League club to strengthen their defence, with the transfer described by Romano as an unexpected development. The agreement is understood to be verbal at this stage, rather than a completed permanent transfer.

Romano also reported that Barcelona sporting director Deco has approved the move. The Uruguay international is therefore expected to make the switch to Liverpool, adding another option to the club’s defensive department for the coming season.

Araujo’s reported departure comes after he fell significantly out of favour under Barcelona manager Hansi Flick. The German coach is said to prefer using Pau Cubarsi and Gerard Martin as his main options in central defence next season, leaving Araujo facing increased competition for a regular place.
