Barcelona defender Eric Garcia forced out of Spain’s Nations League clash with England

Eric Garcia was forced to withdraw from Spain’s Nations League match against England after suffering a knee injury during the warm-up at Wembley on Saturday.

The Barcelona defender had been named in Spain’s starting XI at right-back, but was replaced shortly before kick-off after reporting discomfort. Spanish media said Marc Pubill came into the team in Garcia’s place.

According to Sport, Garcia felt pain in his left knee and was unable to play comfortably. The severity of the injury is not yet known, with Spain and Barcelona waiting for further assessment before determining how long he could be unavailable.

That match will be Spain’s first home fixture since winning the World Cup. La Roja will then welcome Czechia on Saturday before travelling to face Croatia on 6 October in the final match of this international break.
