Barcelona ended an 18-match run without a clean sheet in the Champions League by beating Aston Villa 3-0 on Tuesday in the fourth round of the league phase.
The victory was the Catalan club’s first in the competition without conceding since a 4-0 win over Borussia Dortmund on 9 April 2025, according to statistics from Mister Chip. That ended a wait of 575 days.
Barcelona had gone longer without a clean sheet in the Champions League than any other Spanish club in European competition history. Their shutout against Aston Villa brought that unwanted sequence to an end.
The result also extended Barcelona’s outstanding home record against English opposition. They have now faced English clubs 46 times at home in European competitions and have lost only twice.
Both defeats came against Liverpool, underlining the difficulty English teams have faced when visiting Barcelona in Europe.
According to Squawka, Barcelona are unbeaten in their past 16 home matches against English clubs. They have won 11 of those games and drawn five.
The 3-0 result against Aston Villa therefore combined a long-awaited defensive milestone with another strong performance in a fixture that has traditionally favoured Barcelona at home.
