Bamba Dieng: Senegal forward and free agent linked with shock move to Wrexham

Bamba Dieng, the Senegal international centre-forward currently without a club, has been linked with a surprise move to Championship side Wrexham as the Welsh club assess attacking options ahead of the new season.

The 26-year-old, who left FC Lorient at the start of July and is available on a free transfer, is understood to be on Wrexham’s radar as they look to add top-level experience to their forward line following promotion to the second tier. Dieng’s current market valuation is €15m, meaning a deal without a transfer fee would represent a significant opportunity for any side able to meet his personal terms.

Dieng spent the second half of his time in France with Lorient after joining from Marseille in January 2023 for €7m, later helping Lorient to the French second-tier title in the 2024-25 season. He briefly went out on loan to Angers before returning to Lorient, and was released at the end of his contract this summer.

The Pikine-born striker has considerable top-flight experience in France, scoring 28 goals and providing eight assists in 111 Ligue 1 appearances, and has also featured in European competition in both the Europa League and Europa Conference League. He was part of Senegal’s Africa Cup of Nations-winning squad in 2022, adding further pedigree to any prospective move.

Most recently, Dieng has seen limited action at the 2026 World Cup, making a single substitute appearance, but impressed in domestic cup action last term with five goals in three Coupe de France outings. As it stands, he remains unattached after his departure from Lorient, with Wrexham among the clubs monitoring his situation.
