Senegalese Bamba Dieng attracts Real Betis interest ahead of free agency
Senegalese striker Bamba Dieng is attracting strong interest from Real Betis as he approaches the end of his contract with FC Lorient, with the Spanish club reportedly opening discussions over a potential move.
The forward is set to become a free agent in two months, placing Lorient in a difficult position as they attempt to secure his future.
Despite the club’s desire to extend his contract, there is growing uncertainty over whether an agreement can be reached.
“We’re going to try to extend his contract,” Laurent Koscielny told Le Télégramme regarding the Senegalese striker’s future. But the FC Lorient sporting director acknowledged the challenges involved.
“It doesn’t mean success. It also means staying within our means (in terms of what we can offer). If we can develop a joint project over a few years, we’ll be delighted. He’s a player who embodies our values, with a lot of humility.”
Dieng’s situation has evolved significantly in recent months. After a difficult first half of the season, he has regained form and re-established himself as a key figure within the squad.
His performances have been marked by a consistent return of goals, with the striker currently leading Ligue 1’s scoring charts in 2026.
The 2021 Africa Cup of Nations winner has already scored 14 goals this season, a run that has altered Lorient’s stance after previously considering a departure. Retaining him now appears a priority, although the club faces increasing competition.
Real Betis have emerged as one of the most active suitors. According to reports, the La Liga side has initiated contact with the player’s representatives as they look to strengthen their attacking options.
Dieng’s pace, movement and finishing ability are viewed as qualities that could suit the demands of Spanish football.
Interest is not limited to Spain. In Germany, SC Freiburg are also monitoring the situation closely and could enter the race to secure his signature.
The Bundesliga side are said to value his profile and may look to make an approach as the transfer window approaches.
For now, Dieng remains focused on concluding the season with Lorient. Following his return to the Senegal national team in March, he is also preparing for upcoming international commitments, including the World Cup in less than two months, before making a decision on his future.
