Bamba Dieng’s Lazio move close to collapse after medical examination

Bamba Dieng’s proposed move to Lazio is now unlikely to go ahead, with negotiations between the Senegalese striker and the Italian club reportedly close to ending.

Dieng travelled to Rome on Wednesday evening, 19 August, to undergo a medical examination as he moved closer to completing his transfer to the Serie A side.

However, the initial tests are understood not to have produced the conditions required for the process to continue, putting the proposed move in serious doubt.

The Senegal international had appeared close to joining Lazio, with his arrival in the Italian capital signalling that the transfer was nearing completion.

Instead, the medical examination has created an obstacle that could bring the negotiations to an end.

Dieng is currently without a club after his spell with FC Lorient ended. The forward had therefore been expected to secure a new club after becoming a free agent.

His potential move to Lazio had appeared to provide the next step in his career, but the latest development has left the transfer in considerable uncertainty.

The Italian club and the player had progressed far enough for Dieng to travel to Rome and complete the required medical tests. However, the outcome of those initial examinations has reportedly prevented the process from moving forward.

As a result, the agreement that had appeared to be close to completion could now fail to materialise.

The decision is reportedly almost final, with negotiations expected to come to an end.

For Dieng, the situation leaves his next destination unresolved after his departure from Lorient. The Senegalese striker may now have to consider other options if the Lazio talks are formally brought to a close.

The proposed transfer had been progressing towards a conclusion before the medical examination changed the situation.

Lazio and Dieng now appear unlikely to complete the deal, despite the player’s trip to Rome and the progress made in the negotiations before the tests.
