Ahmed Magdy has identified Lamine Yamal and Harry Kane as the leading candidates for the 2026 Ballon d’Or, while expressing a personal wish to see Khvicha Kvaratskhelia win the award.
The former Egypt international gave his predictions in an exclusive interview with Maghreb-Foot. His choices include five leading names, although he believes two players currently stand above the rest in the race for the prestigious individual prize.
Magdy, who also played for Zamalek and Ghazl El Mahalla, regards Yamal and Kane as complete footballers capable of making the difference at the highest level.
Kane’s continued influence in attack has placed him among Magdy’s main selections, while Lamine Yamal is also viewed as a serious candidate for the award. The former Egyptian player considers both players to have the qualities required to compete for one of football’s most significant individual honours.
Kylian Mbappe is also included among Magdy’s favourites. However, he believes the France forward is currently one step behind Yamal and Kane in the Ballon d’Or race.
Magdy also hopes Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s performances for Paris Saint-Germain will be recognised. The Georgian winger is one of the players he would like to see rewarded, although Magdy acknowledges that Georgia’s early elimination could damage his chances.
Rodri completes Magdy’s main group of contenders. The midfielder has not been ruled out of the discussion as the former Egypt international considers the possible candidates for the 2026 award.
Magdy also mentioned Raphinha, saying he would have liked to see the Brazil international included among the candidates. He considers the Barcelona player to be one of the best footballers in the world.
The predictions underline the wide range of contenders being discussed ahead of this year’s ceremony, which is scheduled to take place in London on 26 October.
Before then, Barcelona are due to face Real Madrid in their 10th match of the Spanish league season. Betting company 1xbet lists Barcelona as the favourites at 1.62, with a draw priced at 5.75 and a Real Madrid victory at 3.90.
