Florentino Perez, the president of Real Madrid, expressed his conviction on Friday that it would be an “injustice” if Cristiano Ronaldo, the Portuguese striker, did not win the 2013 Ballon d’Or. Ronaldo is one of the three finalists along with Lionel Messi and Franck Ribéry.
Perez stated during a Christmas press briefing, “I am convinced that Cristiano Ronaldo will win the Ballon d’Or because I would consider it an injustice if he does not win it when everyone knows that he is the best in the world.” Perez expressed confidence that Ronaldo would attend the ceremony in Zurich on January 13 for the announcement of the winner and the presentation of the trophy, highlighting that Ronaldo has always attended such ceremonies in the past.
Ronaldo, who won the Ballon d’Or in 2008, has had an impressive year with notable performances, including four goals in the World Cup play-offs against Sweden, securing Portugal’s qualification for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. However, Real Madrid did not win any titles in the 2012-2013 season, while Messi clinched the Spanish championship with Barcelona, and Ribéry secured several titles with Bayern Munich.
