Azzedine Ounahi: Morocco midfielder at Girona linked with Ajax transfer move
Morocco international Azzedine Ounahi, currently at Girona, is being linked with a move to Dutch giants Ajax as the Eredivisie side explore midfield options for the new season.
Ounahi, 26, joined Girona from Marseille on a 6m deal in August 2025 and still has four years remaining on his contract, which runs to 30 June 2030. Any approach from Ajax is therefore expected to require a significant fee for a player whose current valuation stands at around 10m.
The central midfielder experienced a difficult 2025-26 campaign at club level as Girona were relegated from Spains top flight, a development that could make negotiations more fluid despite his long-term deal. Ounahi wore the number 18 shirt last season and made his mark in LaLiga with five goals and three assists in 24 appearances, offering a rare bright spot in a relegation year.
Ajax are monitoring opportunities to reinforce in central midfield, and Ounahis recent performances on the international stage have underlined his profile. He featured prominently for Morocco at the 2026 World Cup, starting the majority of matches and scoring twice in six appearances, and was part of the squad that lifted the Africa Cup of Nations in 2025.
Born in Casablanca and comfortable operating in central areas on his right foot, Ounahi has built up experience across Ligue 1, European competition and LaLiga since leaving Angers for Marseille in January 2023. For now he remains under contract at Girona, whose position is strengthened by the length of his deal, but Ajaxs interest has placed his future in Catalonia under scrutiny ahead of the new campaign.
