Morocco head coach Walid Regragui has received encouraging news ahead of the upcoming international break after Girona FC confirmed that Moroccan midfielder Azzedine Ounahi is fit and ready to return to action.

Girona manager Míchel Sánchez revealed that his side has moved on from their morale-boosting win over FC Barcelona and is now fully focused on Monday’s La Liga encounter against Deportivo Alavés in the 25th round of the competition.

Speaking to Diari de Girona, Sánchez confirmed the midfielder’s availability, stating, “Our Moroccan player, Azzedine Ounahi, is now ready to participate.”

He added, “The return of Onahi increases the competition with Thomas Lemar and Etxefri, and this ultimately works in Girona’s favour.”

Reflecting on the team’s recent success, he also noted, “We have had a week full of high spirits after beating Barcelona, and it is natural for us to feel proud after defeating Barca.”

Ounahi’s recovery comes as a significant relief for Regragui, who is preparing to name his Morocco national football team squad for next month’s training camp. The midfielder had been sidelined after sustaining an injury during the Africa Cup of Nations, raising concerns over his match fitness.

The Atlas Lions are scheduled to face Ecuador national football team and Paraguay national football team in friendly matches in March as part of their build-up to the 2026 World Cup.

The tournament draw has placed Morocco in Group C alongside the Brazil national football team, the Scotland national football team, and the Haiti national football team.

With Ounahi back in contention, Regragui now has an added option in midfield as preparations intensify for both the upcoming friendlies and the global showpiece.
