Moroccan wonderkid Ayyoub Bouaddi rises to fifth in Golden Boy rankings

Morocco midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi has moved into fifth place in the latest 2026 Golden Boy rankings, underlining his growing reputation as one of the brightest young talents in European football.

The 18-year-old Lille midfielder is the highest-ranked Moroccan in the latest standings, which are currently led by Barcelona defender Pau Cubarsí.

Bouaddi’s rise comes after an impressive period for both club and country, with his performances attracting interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal has dropped behind Cubarsí but cannot win the award again after claiming the Golden Boy prize in 2024.

Golden Boy winner to be announced in October

The Golden Boy award is open to players born in 2006 or later who play in one of Europe’s 25 leading domestic leagues.

The 2026 winner will be announced at a ceremony in London on 26 October.

For Morocco, Bouaddi’s presence among the leading contenders represents another indication of the country’s growing influence on the European football scene, with the midfielder now aiming to turn his impressive rise into one of the biggest individual honours available to young players.
