Morocco striker Ayoub El Kaabi faces lengthy lay-off after leg fracture

Morocco international Ayoub El Kaabi could be sidelined for up to seven months after suffering fractures to his left tibia and fibula while playing for Olympiacos in Greece.

The 33-year-old striker underwent successful surgery on Sunday following the serious injury he sustained during Olympiacos’ 1-1 Greek Super League draw against Volos on Saturday.

El Kaabi was injured shortly before half-time after a heavy collision with Volos goalkeeper Marios Siampanis and was forced to leave the pitch in severe pain.

Surgery completed successfully

Greek newspaper Proto Thema reported that El Kaabi’s operation was successfully completed on Sunday morning.

The Moroccan forward will now begin a lengthy rehabilitation programme as he works towards returning to competitive football.

Early estimates suggest the striker could spend between six and seven months on the sidelines, although the exact duration of his absence will depend on his response to treatment and rehabilitation.

Blow for Morocco and Olympiacos

The injury represents a significant setback for both Olympiacos and Morocco.

El Kaabi has been an important attacking option for the North African nation and his potential long-term absence could affect Morocco’s plans for upcoming international assignments.

For Olympiacos, the loss of their experienced Moroccan striker also leaves the Greek champions facing a prolonged period without one of their key attacking figures.
