Axel Tuanzebe unveils Cristiano Ronaldo’s recovery secrets to staying at the top

Axel Tuanzebe, currently a defender for Ipswich Town, has shed light on the rigorous recovery regimen that Cristiano Ronaldo credits for his enduring performance at the highest level.

The defender recalled a conversation with Ronaldo during his second stint at Old Trafford, where the five-time Ballon d’Or winner emphasized the importance of recovery over training.

“I spoke to Cristiano Ronaldo at Manchester United on his second spell round and I said what’s been the key for you he said look the training is important but the recovery is what I focus on. Ice baths, infrared saunas, oxygen chambers, just simple stretching, massages, rubs, yoga.

“You need to get it in consistently as well just like when you play you build up momentum and you start hitting a level of consistency, it’s the same thing with recovery.

“You need to build that level of consistency. When you taper off from that, that’s when you start finding issues,” Tuanzebe has shared.

In the 2024/25 Premier League season, Tuanzebe has been a key player for Ipswich Town, making 13 league appearances. Despite the team’s challenges, he has maintained a strong defensive presence, contributing to the squad’s efforts in a demanding campaign.
