Austrian-Nigerian star David Alaba joins Udinese on free transfer after Real Madrid departure

Austrian international of Nigerian descent David Alaba has found a new club after leaving Real Madrid, with the experienced defender beginning a new chapter of his career in Italy.

The 34-year-old joins on a free transfer after signing a contract that will keep him at the club until June 30, 2027.

The move brings an end to Alaba’s spell as a free agent following his departure from Real Madrid this summer. He successfully completed his medical before finalising the switch to Udinese, who officially announced the signing on September 24.

The Italian club welcomed Alaba as a player with vast experience at the highest level of European football, having previously enjoyed distinguished spells with Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.

Despite moving into the latter stages of his career, Alaba has made it clear that he still has major ambitions and is determined to continue competing at the highest level.

The Austrian does not view his move to Udinese as simply an opportunity to see out the final years of his career. Instead, he remains focused on winning trophies and making a meaningful contribution to his new club.

Alaba also revealed that Udinese head coach had already explained the role he is expected to play within the team.

The experienced defender is ready to take responsibility both on and off the pitch, while also using his wealth of experience to help guide the club’s younger players.

Udinese also highlighted Alaba’s leadership qualities and his career at the highest level as they welcomed him to the club.

“A champion in black and white. David Alaba is a new Udinese Calcio player. Experience, leadership and a career at the highest level of world football,” the club announced.

Alaba spent five seasons at Real Madrid after joining the Spanish giants from Bayern Munich in 2021. Before his move to Madrid, he established himself as one of Europe’s most accomplished defenders during his long spell in Germany.

According to Udinese’s official announcement, Alaba made 431 appearances for Bayern Munich, scoring 33 goals and winning numerous major trophies, including the UEFA Champions League.

He now takes his experience to Serie A, where he will look to help Udinese compete strongly while providing valuable leadership to a squad that will benefit from his extensive experience at the top level.
