Austrian-Nigerian star David Alaba arrives in Italy to seal Udinese move

Austria international of Nigerian descent David Alaba has arrived in Italy to complete his move to Udinese as a free agent.

The former Bayern Munich and Real Madrid defender is set to undergo his medical examination before signing his contract with the Serie A club, with the transfer now at an advanced stage.

As per reports, Udinese have reached a verbal agreement with the 34-year-old utility player, who is now in Italy to complete the final formalities of the deal.

Alaba’s medical is expected to be the next major step before the move is officially completed, after which he will join Kosta Runjaic’s squad and begin preparations with his new teammates.

Alaba became a free agent on July 1, 2026, following the expiration of his contract with Real Madrid, bringing an end to his five-year spell at the Spanish giants.

During his time in Madrid, the Austrian established himself as an important member of the squad and added further major honours to an already decorated career.

Before moving to Spain, Alaba spent the bulk of his career at Bayern Munich, where he developed into one of Europe’s most accomplished defenders.

He made more than 400 appearances for the German giants and won the UEFA Champions League twice during his time at the club.

The versatile defender has been capable of operating at centre-back, left-back and in midfield throughout his career, offering Udinese additional options across the defensive and deeper areas of the pitch.

If he completes his medical without any issues, Alaba will officially become a Udinese player and begin a new chapter in Italy after spells with two of European football’s biggest clubs.

The move represents a significant addition for Udinese, who are set to welcome a player with extensive Champions League experience and a trophy-laden career at the highest level of European football.
