GFA contract clause puts Otto Addo’s role in jeopardy after AFCON disappointment

Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has described Friday’s international friendly against Austria as a ‘very good test match’ as Ghana intensifies preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Speaking at a pre-match press conference at the Ernst-Happel-Stadion on Thursday, March 26, Addo emphasized the importance of facing high-caliber European opposition after a lengthy period without such fixtures.

Addo acknowledged the significant challenge posed by the Austrian side, noting the “really high” profile of their players who feature for top-tier European clubs.

“The profiles of the players are really high, they play in good clubs. But we also have good players, good footballers, will be very interesting also for us after a long period to play in Europe against a European team. A European team and I think for both teams it will be a very good test match.”

The fixture is the first of two crucial European friendlies for the Black Stars, who are also scheduled to face Germany in Stuttgart on March 30.

These matches are designed to help the technical team evaluate squad depth and tactical cohesion ahead of a challenging World Cup group that includes England, Croatia, and Panama.
