The tragic passing of Kodjo Etonam Adjassou, a young Togolese striker for Bankstown Lions, has left the football community in mourning. Kodjo, just 24 years old, collapsed and died during a match between his team and Spirit FC at Jensen Stadium last Saturday. The incident occurred just ten minutes into the game, and despite efforts by medics to revive him, he tragically passed away. The match was immediately suspended following the incident.
Kodjo had recently joined Bankstown Lions from Coffs Coast Tigers, after playing for Berries in the previous season. He had a remarkable background, having spent several years in a refugee camp in Ghana before making his way to Australia. Kodjo was married and a father to a four-month-old daughter.
The outpouring of support and condolences has been overwhelming, with many within the football community expressing their sorrow, including Football Australia and his teammates at Bankstown City FC.
This loss is deeply felt by all who knew him, and our thoughts are with his family, friends, and everyone at Bankstown Lions during this incredibly difficult time.
