Aubameyang’s Borussia Dortmund Sees Revenues Rise

Borussia Dortmund Posts €276 Million Turnover Despite Disappointing Season
By BBC Sport – German Football

Despite enduring a difficult season on the pitch, Borussia Dortmund has posted strong financial results, confirming its status as one of Germany’s most robust football institutions.

The 2014–2015 campaign saw the Bundesliga giants, home to striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, struggle in domestic competition. Dortmund finished seventh in the league and were knocked out of the UEFA Champions League in the round of 16 by Juventus.

However, on Friday, club officials announced that the club had recorded a turnover of €276 million for the financial year — a €15 million increase on the previous season.

“We had a decent year despite a horrible season,” club president Hans-Joachim Watzke admitted during a press conference. His remarks underlined the paradox of Dortmund’s situation: sporting underachievement accompanied by financial growth.

The figures cement Borussia Dortmund’s place as the second-strongest club in Germany in terms of revenue, trailing only Bayern Munich. The Bavarians continue to dominate with a budget approaching €500 million, placing them among the most powerful clubs globally.

Dortmund’s financial stability has been underpinned by consistent matchday attendance, commercial partnerships, and smart player trading in recent years. Despite setbacks on the field, including an early season relegation scare, the club’s off-field performance offers optimism for the future.

With new manager Thomas Tuchel at the helm and key players like Aubameyang in form, the club is aiming for a strong return to the Champions League and a top-four Bundesliga finish in the new campaign.

For Dortmund fans, the hope will be that financial strength now translates into success on the pitch.
