Aubameyang joins Deportivo La Corogne’s elite scoring roll after flying Liga start
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has made an immediate mark on his return to Spanish football, becoming only the seventh player in Deportivo La Corogne history to score in each of the club’s first three Liga matches in a single season.
The 37-year-old Gabon international has scored three times since joining Deportivo from Olympique de Marseille during the summer, establishing himself as one of the main attacking threats in the side’s opening weeks of the 2026-27 campaign.
Aubameyang opened his account on the first day of the season against Elche. His goal helped Deportivo secure a 1-1 draw and gave the striker an early opportunity to demonstrate that his finishing remains sharp despite his age.
He was on target again seven days later when Deportivo faced Malaga. Although the match also ended 1-1, Aubameyang continued his personal scoring sequence by finding the net for a second consecutive league game.
The run reached a significant milestone on Sunday, 30 August, when Deportivo hosted Valence. The home side had already taken the lead in the 13th minute before Aubameyang struck four minutes later to make it 2-0. Deportivo eventually completed a 3-1 victory, with the result providing the most convincing evidence yet of their strong start.
By scoring in all three opening fixtures, Aubameyang has entered a select group of Deportivo players who have achieved the same feat in the club’s Liga history. Before him, the list consisted of six names: Elicegui in 1941-42, Pahino in 1954-55, Bebeto in 1992-93, Roy Makaay in 2002-03, and Walter Pandiani in both 2003-04 and 2004-05.
Aubameyang is now the latest addition to that distinguished list of Deportivo goalscorers. His arrival from Olympique de Marseille has therefore produced an impact that goes beyond his three goals, with the forward already becoming one of the defining figures of the club’s opening weeks.
His record also represents the latest chapter in a career that has included a long-standing reputation for pace, movement and clinical finishing. After only three matches back in Spain, he has given Deportivo a reliable source of goals and helped the club claim its first league win of the season against Valence.
Deportivo’s next fixture will come in the fourth round of the Spanish championship, when they face Villarreal. The match is scheduled to follow Aubameyang’s historic start, with betting company 1xbet listing Deportivo La Corogne at 5.80 to win, a draw at 4.30 and Villarreal at 1.53.
