Atlético Madrid have emerged as strong contenders for the signature of Nigerian international Alex Iwobi, with the Spanish giants reportedly tabling a €25 million bid to lure the midfielder away from Fulham.
Following an impressive 2024/25 Premier League campaign in which he recorded 10 goals and 6 assists across 38 matches, the 29-year-old has attracted interest from the La Liga side, who are looking to reinforce their midfield ahead of next season.
Finishing third in La Liga, Atlético are preparing an aggressive summer transfer window as they seek to bridge the gap with domestic rivals Real Madrid and Barcelona.
Atlético view Iwobi as a key piece in their evolving midfield structure.
The club has reportedly offered the former Arsenal and Everton player a four-year deal worth €7 million per year.
Talks are said to be progressing positively, with Iwobi and his representatives open to the opportunity of a new challenge in Spain.
“Iwobi is clearly on Atlético’s radar,” a source close to the negotiations reportedly confirmed. “The offer is serious, and the player is intrigued by the possibility of playing in La Liga under Diego Simeone.”
Currently under contract with Fulham until June 2028, Iwobi’s estimated market value stands at €28 million, according to Transfermarkt.
While Fulham are reluctant to part ways with one of their standout performers, the financial aspect of Atlético’s offer could sway the West London club’s stance, especially as they look to fund reinforcements of their own.
Iwobi, who joined Fulham from Everton in June 2023, has continued to mature into a dynamic and versatile presence in midfield, equally effective in deeper roles or further up the pitch.
His consistency and work ethic have earned praise from Fulham’s coaching staff, while his international pedigree — 80 caps and 10 goals for Nigeria — adds to his profile as a dependable performer at the top level.
Should the transfer materialise, it would mark Iwobi’s first venture into Spanish football, having spent his entire professional career in England.
For Atlético, it represents another calculated move in building a squad capable of challenging on multiple fronts, both domestically and in Europe.
With negotiations ongoing, all eyes will be on Fulham’s response and whether Iwobi becomes the next Premier League export to grace La Liga.
