Atletico Madrid seal 3-0 win over Real Sociedad with three late goals

Atletico Madrid returned to winning ways in emphatic fashion as late goals from Alejandro Grimaldo, Jonathan David and Giuliano Simeone secured a 3-0 victory over Real Sociedad at Reale Arena in the fifth round of the Spanish league.

The result moved Atletico Madrid up to fourth place with 10 points, while Real Sociedad remained 12th on seven points.

Atletico had been beaten by Athletic Bilbao in their previous league match, but Diego Simeone’s side responded with a decisive finish to the game and continued their pursuit of Barcelona at the top of the Spanish league.

The visitors broke the deadlock in the 84th minute when Spanish defender Alejandro Grimaldo converted from the penalty spot.

Jonathan David then doubled Atletico Madrid’s advantage in the 90th minute, beating the Real Sociedad defence before finding the net.

It was David’s first goal for Atletico Madrid and came on his debut, having played 30 minutes.

Giuliano Simeone completed the scoring in the fifth minute of added time. Atletico launched a swift counter-attack, with Simeone moving past the Real Sociedad defence before placing the ball into the net to complete the victory.

Julian Alvarez was absent after suffering an injury during Atletico Madrid’s recent training sessions.

Atletico Madrid will now prepare to face Osasuna on Wednesday in the sixth round of the Spanish league.

Real Sociedad are scheduled to play Valencia on Sunday in the seventh round. Their sixth-round fixture was postponed because of the club’s participation in the Europa League.
