Athletic Club are reportedly demanding that FC Barcelona pay the release clause of Spanish forward of Ghanaian descent Nico Williams if the club wants to secure his signing this summer.
According to a source, club President Jon Uriarte has emphatically stated that there will be no negotiations regarding the transfer of Nico Williams
As a result, FC Barcelona must find a way to pay the 58 million release clause of the highly-rated youngster.
The stance taken by Athletic Club is expected to complicate Barcelona’s plans to poach the 22-year-old.
Already, Barcelona has agreed personal terms with Williams, and the player has agreed to sign a six-year contract with the La Liga champions.
The Spanish club operates under La Liga’s “1:1” rule, which ties expenses to expected revenue.
Barcelona may now sell some of their players to raise the cash to recruit Williams.
Transfer experts are now doubting Barcelona’s capabilities of signing their summer target.
