Atalanta’s director, Tony D’Amico, has firmly dismissed any speculation regarding the potential sale of star winger Ademola Lookman during the January transfer window.
The announcement comes as several top clubs, including Liverpool, reportedly expressed interest in the Nigerian winger.
With the transfer window set to open, D’Amico emphasised the club’s commitment to retaining its key players to maintain their competitive edge in Serie A.
Speaking to Sky Sport Italia, he clarified Atalanta’s stance saying “Certainly, the January transfer window is a difficult one for all clubs. If there are any opportunities, we will go for them, but obviously maintaining the full squad that we currently have at our disposal.”
This firm statement underlines Atalanta’s resolve to keep their squad intact as they navigate a challenging season. Lookman, one of their standout performers, has been instrumental in Gian Piero Gasperini’s system. On Saturday, the 27-year-old played a crucial role in securing a 1-1 draw against Lazio.
The winger’s impressive form this season speaks volumes about his value to the team. In 20 appearances across competitions, Lookman has tallied 11 goals and provided six assists, further solidifying his reputation as a key offensive asset for La Dea.
As interest from European giants swirls, Atalanta’s decision to hold onto Lookman sends a clear message about their ambitions and determination to remain competitive at the highest level.
