Atalanta join race for Senegal Star Assane Diao
Senegal international Assane Diao has emerged as a transfer target for several clubs across Europe, with Serie A side Atalanta reportedly considering a move for the highly rated winger.
The 20-year-old made an impressive impact after joining Como from Real Betis for €12 million during the January transfer window of the 2024-25 season.
Diao quickly established himself as one of the promising young attackers in Serie A, scoring eight goals in 15 appearances for Como during the second half of the campaign.
His progress was disrupted by injuries in the 2025-26 season, however, as he managed just 17 league appearances.
The Senegalese forward has also faced increased competition for places in Como’s attack, with Jesus Rodriguez, Nico Paz, Martin Baturina, Nicolas Kuhn and Jayden Addai among the players competing for attacking roles.
Despite his limited involvement last season, Diao’s potential continues to attract significant interest.
Galatasaray and AS Roma are among the clubs previously linked with the winger, while fresh reports from Italian transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio indicate that Atalanta have now joined the race.
The Bergamo-based club are believed to be monitoring Diao as they assess their attacking options ahead of the new season, with manager Maurizio Sarri reportedly interested in the Senegal international.
Como, for their part, are not actively looking to sell Diao and do not currently consider him to be available for transfer.
However, reports suggest the club could be prepared to discuss his future if they receive an attractive offer that meets their expectations.
Diao’s situation could therefore become one to watch during the transfer window, particularly if interest from Atalanta and other European clubs develops into formal approaches.
Having already demonstrated his goalscoring ability in Serie A, the Senegal international remains one of the young attacking talents attracting attention in the Italian market.
