Brian Madjo suffers injury setback

Aston Villa have suffered an injury setback ahead of the new Premier League season, with highly-rated teenage striker Brian Madjo expected to miss the opening weeks of the campaign.

The 17-year-old forward, who is France and Cameroon descent has emerged as one of Villa’s most impressive performers during pre-season, but his encouraging preparations have now been disrupted by an injury sustained following the club’s UEFA Super Cup defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.

Madjo had enjoyed a memorable outing against the European champions, scoring Villa’s only goal on his competitive debut and immediately announcing himself on the continental stage.

His goal was particularly significant as it made him the youngest scorer in UEFA Super Cup history, further highlighting the potential surrounding the teenager.

However, the excitement surrounding his breakthrough has been tempered by the injury, which is expected to keep him out of action until at least September.

According to reports, Madjo is facing a spell on the sidelines that could see him miss several of Aston Villa’s early fixtures as manager Unai Emery’s side begins its Premier League campaign.

The timing of the injury will come as a disappointment to both the player and the club, particularly after Madjo had made such a strong impression during the build-up to the new season.

His performances had raised expectations that he could be given further opportunities in the first team, especially after his impressive display against PSG.

Instead, Villa will now have to manage the opening part of the campaign without one of their most promising young attacking players.

If Madjo’s recovery follows the current projected timeline, he could miss Villa’s meeting with Arsenal, as well as upcoming fixtures against Hull City, Nottingham Forest and Tottenham on September 19.

The absence would reduce Emery’s attacking options at a time when Villa are preparing for another demanding season involving domestic and European football.

With Madjo unavailable, Ollie Watkins is expected to remain Villa’s primary option to lead the attack.

Watkins has established himself as one of the club’s most important attacking players and will likely carry a greater responsibility during Madjo’s absence.

Tammy Abraham also provides Emery with another senior option in the striker position, giving the Villa boss some depth despite the teenager’s injury.

For Madjo, the immediate priority will be recovering fully rather than rushing his return.

At just 17, the forward has already taken a significant step into senior football and will be keen to build on his breakthrough once he is fit again.

His goal against PSG provided a glimpse of his potential, and Villa will hope that his latest setback proves only a temporary interruption to what could become an exciting career at the club.

The injury is nevertheless a blow for Emery, who would have been encouraged by Madjo’s rapid emergence during pre-season.

Villa will now have to rely on their more experienced forwards while waiting for the teenage striker to return.

With the Premier League campaign approaching, the club will closely monitor Madjo’s rehabilitation and assess his progress before determining when he can safely resume full training and competitive action.

For now, the youngster faces a frustrating period on the sidelines after what had been a remarkable start to his senior career.
