Aston Villa make late move for PSG winger Ibrahima Mbaye after Rafael Leao decision

Aston Villa are close to reaching an agreement with Paris Saint-Germain to sign winger Ibrahima Mbaye, with negotiations for the Senegalese player understood to be in their final stages.

The proposed transfer is expected to be worth about €55m (£47m), according to Fabrizio Romano and The Athletic.

Villa turned their attention to Mbaye after Rafael Leao chose to join Galatasaray. That decision prompted the Premier League club to pursue the Paris Saint-Germain winger as an alternative attacking option.

Talks between Aston Villa and Paris Saint-Germain have advanced, although the deal has not yet been completed. The two clubs are continuing discussions over a transfer which could see Mbaye leave the French side for England.

Mbaye is the latest player to become the focus of Villa’s recruitment efforts after Leao’s decision to move elsewhere. The club’s interest in the Senegal international has now resulted in negotiations entering their closing phase, with the proposed fee understood to be close to €55m.

The move would take Mbaye from Paris Saint-Germain to Aston Villa if an agreement is finalised. At present, the transfer remains subject to the completion of the negotiations between the two clubs.

The winger’s potential arrival follows Villa’s change of direction in the market. Leao had been an option for the club, but his choice to join Galatasaray led Villa to turn towards Mbaye instead.

With talks described as being at an advanced stage, Aston Villa are now seeking to conclude an agreement with Paris Saint-Germain. The clubs are discussing a deal worth approximately €55m, while Mbaye’s prospective move remains the central development in Villa’s pursuit of a new winger.
