Aston Villa complete £47m deadline-day move for Senegal winger Ibrahim Mbaye

Aston Villa have signed Senegal winger Ibrahim Mbaye from Paris Saint-Germain for a reported £47m on transfer deadline day, adding one of the most highly rated young forwards in world football to Unai Emery’s squad.

The 18-year-old joins Villa after making 31 appearances in all competitions for Paris Saint-Germain last season. He helped the French club win both the Champions League and the Ligue 1 title.

Mbaye also made his mark on the international stage at the recent World Cup, featuring four times for Senegal. He scored against France to become the youngest African player to find the net in the men’s tournament.

Born in France, Mbaye has won 15 caps for Senegal since making his Paris Saint-Germain debut at the age of 16. His move to the Premier League represents the latest major step in a rapid rise that has already seen him establish himself at club and international level.

“Aston Villa is delighted to announce the signing of Ibrahim Mbaye from Paris Saint-Germain,” the club said in a statement.

“The Senegal international, a bright and exciting young prospect who scored for his country at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, joins on a permanent transfer.”

Mbaye is the latest arrival during a major period of change at Villa Park. Villa ended a 30-year wait for a trophy by winning the Europa League last season, but the club have since overseen a significant turnover in their squad.

Morgan Rogers, Youri Tielemans, Ollie Watkins, Lucas Digne, Emiliano Martinez and Ezri Konsa have all departed during the close-season.

Emery has responded by bringing in Alejandro Garnacho, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Johan Manzambi, Zion Suzuki, Joao Gomes, Leon Goretzka, Matteo Ruggeri and Nicolas Jackson, before completing the deal for Mbaye.

The Senegal international’s signing was followed only hours later by another defensive addition. Villa agreed a £29m deal to sign Southampton centre-back Taylor Harwood-Bellis.

Villa will pay an initial £25m for the 24-year-old England international, with a further £4m available through potential add-on clauses. Southampton had rejected two earlier bids before accepting the latest offer from Emery’s side.

Mbaye’s arrival gives Villa another attacking option as they continue to reshape the squad after their Europa League success. His experience of playing for a Champions League-winning side and his contribution for Senegal at the World Cup underline the scale of the club’s investment on deadline day.
